January 20, 2017 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST - Navi Mumbai:

Two men were arrested by the NRI Coastal Police on charge of assaulting two constables in an inebriated state at 4 a.m. on Wednesday in Navi Mumbai.

Pramod Wankhede and Machindra Patil were assaulted when they tried to defuse an argument between Dyaneshwar Krishna Mali (27) and Rahul Vijay Sonawane (29), residents of Chembur. They were waiting at a bus stop in Killa Junction on Palm Beach Road after attending a party at a pub in Navi Mumbai. The constables attached to the NRI Coastal Police Station were on night patrol when they found the duo involved in an argument. When the constables attempted to broker peace, Mali and Sonawane began abusing them. Mali assaulted Wankhede when he tried to take them to the police station for an enquiry. A police officer said, “They were presented before the court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody.”
