MUMBAI: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the BJP would choose transparency over the Shiv Sena, indicating there will be no post-poll pact with the Sena. “The alliance was broken up on the issue of transparency, which is good for us. There will be no compromise on it.”

Taunting the Sena, Mr. Fadnavis said the Nagpur Municipal Corporation had constructed concrete roads in such a way that it has not spent a single penny on their maintenance for the last 20 years. “The best way to ensure pothole-free roads is to construct with highest level of sustainability, like in Nagpur. We spend a large amount of money in Mumbai for roads, but they have no sustainability. The quality of roads is bad. I wouldn’t comment on the scams which are unearthed, but Mumbai should have roads which are sustainable.”

The Chief Minister held a live chat with 20 people on a social networking website at Y.B. Chavan Centre to discuss suggestions for the manifesto. The discussion was part of an online campaign — Our City, Our Agenda — through which the party claimed to have received over seven lakh suggestions through websites, phone calls, Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. “Parties pretend to know the problems of people without even asking them. We feel that the crowd participation is necessary to know about their expectations.”

Mr. Fadnavis promised to incorporate a number of suggestions. “The city is seeing a number of redevelopment projects. We aim to make those zero-discharge and zero-garbage projects and the sewage water will be treated in the house to be used for non-drinking purposes,” he said, adding that the party will ensure 100% underground sewage system.

Besides, free Wi-Fi and a legal obligation on the civic bodies to build toilets for women, will figure in the manifesto for the civic polls, which will be released on Tuesday.
