The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday told a local court that it has no objection to making Shyamwar Rai, driver of Indrani Mukerjea and prime accused in the murder of Sheena Bora, an approver.
On May 11, Shyamwar, who is currently lodged at the Arthur Road Jail, sought pardon from his sentence from a special CBI court, and submitted an application to become an approver in the case.
Judge H. S. Mahajan, who accepted his application, has now asked the prosecution to file a reply to Shyamwar’s application, and has posted the matter for hearing to May 17.
Mr Rai turning an approver is of considerable significance in the case especially for the prosecution, considering his statement before the court will be treated as evidence.
Shyamwar had told the court that he is aware of the acts connected with the crime and was a participant in Sheena Bora murder case. He had also said that the was under no threat, pressure or coercion to reveal any facts pertaining to the case.
Indrani Mukerjea, her husband Peter, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, and Shyamwar were arrested in connection with the murder of Sheena Bora in April 2012. Sheena’s partially-burnt body was found in the forests of Raigad district.
