Ola hikes fare for Micro cabs

The firm will charge the original rate of Rs. 6. per km only for the first 20 km and Rs. 12 for the rest

Cab aggregator Ola recently increased the fare for Micro, the cheapest offering in its bouquet of taxi services, catching commuters by surprise.

Ola drivers were also unaware of the change in the fare structure, though the company’s representatives said they had put up the information on its website.

According to the standard fare posted on Ola’s website, the company has revised the fare for Micro cabs from Rs. 6 per km to Rs. 12 per km for long-distance rides.

The taxi service will now charge the original rate of Rs 6. per km only for the first 20 km and will charge Rs. 12 for every subsequent kilometre.

The other charges for Micro include a base fare of Rs. 45, a ‘ride time’ charge of Re. 1 per minute for the duration of the ride, Service Tax of 5.6 per cent, and Swachh Bharat and Krishi Kalyan cess of 0.2 per cent

Micro is the cheapest offering from Ola cabs at a flat rate of Rs. 6 per km, making it competitive with not just black-and - yellow taxis but alsi autorickshaws for long-distance rides.

The company also offers Mini at Rs. 11 per km, Prime Sedan at Rs. 13 per km, Prime SUV at Rs. 17 per km, and Ola Lux at Rs. 20 per km.

Though the company claimed the information was posted on its website, the Ola cellphone app continued to show a rate structure of Rs. 6 per minute.
