Mumbai Police commissioner Ahmed Javed on Thursday said the police will “look afresh” at the sensational murder of journalist-writer J Dey after underworld don Chhota Rajan is deported to India from Indonesia and brought to Mumbai.
“As per the process of law, everything would be looked afresh. The main accused would be available for trial... all aspects would be examined... nothing would be left for doubt,” said Mr. Javed, during an interactive session with journalists at the Mumbai Press Club.
“The main culprit would have to go through a legal process and evidence would be gathered to put up a case in the court,” he said speaking at a function to launch a women's personal safety device.
Jyotirmoy Dey, 56, the Editor (Investigations) of Mid-Day , was shot dead on June 11, 2011 near his Powai residence at the behest of Rajan. Journalist Jigna Vora was also among those arrested in the case. This is one of the 75 cases in which Rajan has been named in the Mumbai Police dossier.
