Mumbai: A former sub-inspector with the Mumbai Police, who resigned from the post last year, will be contesting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections scheduled to be held next month.
Gangaram Kamble, who was with the Shivaji Nagar police when he put in his papers, on Tuesday said he will contest as an independent candidate from Shivaji Nagar. “I know this locality very well. The people here want development. Political leaders came and went, but did nothing. There are issues like adulteration, drugs and crimes against women, which need to be addressed.”
Mr. Kamble, who has been responsible for the highest number of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, said drug peddling is one of the biggest problems that plagues Shivaji Nagar. “Even if I don’t win, I will continue to work in this area for the people.”
Mr. Kamble submitted his resignation to the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, around five months ago. He joined the force in 1984, and was promoted as a PSI in 2014.
