Congress MLA Jaykumar Gore, who is facing charges of sexual harassment, surrendered before the Satara district police on Tuesday.

He was arrested and produced in a local court which remanded him in police custody till January 12.

The anticipatory bail plea of Mr. Gore, who represents the Mann-Khatav Assembly constituency in Satara, was rejected by the Bombay High Court on Monday.

According to the Satara Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil, Mr. Gore had absconded from the MLA hostel in Mumbai fearing arrest after his pre-arrest bail application was rejected by the court.

The Congress strongman, a three-time MLA, was accused by a woman in November last year of allegedly sending lewd messages on WhatsApp and soliciting sexual favours.
