7 held, BJP corporator booked for murder

The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Thane Police Crime Branch has taken custody of seven men, who were in the Thane Central Jail in a robbery case, in connection with the alleged plot to kill an independent corporator from Dombivli. The AEC has also booked a BJP corporator for giving the contract to kill the independent corporator.

Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Sharma, Thane AEC, said independent Corporator Kunal Patil registered an FIR after receiving death threats. “We learned that the accused had arrested by the Ambadi police station in connection with a robbery case, and took them into our custody,” Mr. Sharma said. The accused allegedly said they took ₹50 lakh from BJP Corporator Mahesh Patil for the murder. Mahesh Patil is absconding and has applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court.
