Mumbai: Swine flu has killed 199 people in the State between January and October. More than 16,000 patients with H1N1 like symptoms have been undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Health Minister Deepak Sawant said the State’s infectious disease committee has discussed forming a protocol for treatment of H1N1 patients on ventilator.

“The protocol will be ready in two days and circulated in all private and public hospitals,” he said. Experts said delay in treatment is one of the reasons of H1N1 deaths. Many patients self medicate for fever, cold and throat infection, and rush to the doctor when symptoms don’t subside even after a week. Doctors said one should seek immediate medical opinion at the onset of such symptoms.
