Rahul Mukerjea, son of Peter Mukerjea, came looking for his fiancé Sheena Bora at Marlow building, the Worli residence of Peter and Indrani Mukherjea, two days after she was murdered. This has been recorded in the statement of Pradeep Waghmare, who was sent from Indrani’s INX News office to clean the apartment.
Peter Mukerjea was arrested in connection with the case last week.
Pradeep’s statement is part of the CBI’s charge sheet that has statements of 194 persons. He said he was cleaning the apartment on April 26, 2012, when Rahul arrived and inquired about her.
Rahul and Sheena were living in a rented flat since 2010. The two were engaged in 2011.
The charge sheet notes that Pradeep attended to the cleaning work on the instructions of Kajal Sharma, Indrani’s personal secretary. Significantly, Indrani instructed Kajal over the phone that Pradeep should not be allowed to visit her flat from April 23 to 25, 2012. Sheena was murdered on April 24 and her body was disposed of the next day.
The charge sheet also includes the statement of Kajal. In her roughly 15-page statement, she told the investigating agency that she taught Shyamvar Rai how to use Skype and sign into his account. In the days leading up to the murder, Indrani had started conversations with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Rai over emails, phone and Skype. She asked Kajal to open a Skype account in Rai’s name and to train him to use it.
Signature forged Kajal has also admitted to forging Sheena’s signature and sending a resignation letter in Sheena’s name to her employer Reliance on Indrani’s instructions. She said she acted under pressure as she had to obey her boss.
Indrani told her that since Sheena was in the U.S., she was unable to tender her resignation. Kajal then emailed a resignation letter with Sheena’s signature to Indrani. After Indrani approved it, Kajal sent the letter through M/s Maruti Courier Service’s Mulund West office.
Kajal also created a Hotmail ID, sheenabora@hotmail.com, and gave the password to Indrani. She also forged Sheena’s signature on a letter to her landlord about discontinuing leave and licence agreement.
Indrani also used Sheena’s phone to message Rahul. On the day of the murder, Rahul tried calling Sheena, but received a message saying she was enjoying a meal with her mother.
Later, she sent him another message stating that the relationship was off. “I don’t have the heart to say this to you. I met someone else. In fact, I have left with him, V sorry,” said one message.
Indrani later called Shubhodoy Mukherjee of Mumbai Metro, the company where Sheena was employed, and introduced herself as Sheena’s sister. When he insisted on talking to Sheena, Indrani informed him that she would send her resignation soon.
