Why not make waste bins a little attractive to encourage people to use them? Why not make swimming training mandatory for all students?

These are just some of the constructive ideas that came up from students at a workshop titled My Kerala: Mentoring Young Kerala, organised by the Kerala State Youth Commission in association with Magic Academy in Kozhikode on Wednesday.

The workshop, opened by A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, at Malabar Christian College, saw the participation of over 1,000 students, many of whom came forward to give suggestions on ‘Building a new Kerala’, which will be put together to be presented to the Chief Minister at the end of the series of workshops to be held in each district.

A major attraction of the programme was the presence of magician Gopinath Muthukad, who with his tricks and speech got the youngsters hooked for more than an hour.

He motivated them to be part of the rebuilding process and was keen on knowing their views on various issues. “Mr. Muthukad is a good speaker as well, besides being a good magician. He has the power in his voice to keep you interested, hence he was chosen for this task,” said T.P. Bineesh, member of the Youth Commission, who was also part of the workshop.

Principal Godwin Samraj and Commission secretary D. Santhosh Kumar were present.

The workshop series will conclude in Thrissur by the end of the year.
