Women’s panel regional office in Kozhikode soon

It will be helpful for Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod

The chairperson of State Women’s Commission (SWC) M.C. Josephine has said that the regional office of the commission in Kozhikode will start functioning in a month.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday after a sitting of the commission, Ms. Josephine said regional offices of the commission would be opened in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam soon.

The office to be opened in Kozhikode would be helpful for the public in Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod districts.

Awareness camps

As many as five awareness camps would be organised for tribal women in Wayanad district at Meenangadi, Noolpuzha, Thirunelly, Panamaram, and Poothadi grama panchayats from April 30 to May 4,she said.

Free legal assistance

“The commission would provide free legal assistance to unwed mothers,” Ms. Josephine said, adding that if necessary, free assistance would be provided to them for conducting DNA tests.

A team would be constituted to study various issues being faced by women in the State, she said.

As many as 37 cases came before the panel during the sitting, of which three cases were settled and 11 cases postponed to the next sitting.
