It’s a depiction of women power, in all possible hues and styles. ‘Sanghachitra’, an exhibition of paintings by woman artists of Kozhikode, is indeed a proclamation of their strength of unity.

‘Sanghachitra’ features the works of around 15 female artists of Kozhikode. A most interesting feature of this exhibition is that its participants are not exactly professionals.

There are around four art teachers in the group, a doctor, a few art students, a few other former art students who have chosen other fields of work and even some home makers, who have had no formal training in art.

All genres of art

The paintings displayed, two of each artist, belongs to all possible genres of art, be it realistic, abstract or surreal.

The mediums used are as varied as water colour, oil paints, acrylic, charcoal and pencil.

The exhibition is the first step towards forming a forum of woman artists, under the same title ‘Sanghachitra’.

Forum’s plans

The forum plans to hold more exhibitions in different parts of the State and also provide a platform to women artists to help them make it to the mainstream, said artist Radhika Ranjith, one of the participants in the show.

Rugmini Nair, Suchitra Ullas, Lissy Unnikrishnan, Maneesha Muruvassery, Jiji Pradeep, Ambili Vijayan, Aysha.E.V, Bindukala, Shabija.A.K, Shyama.V.S, Asha Rajeev, Priya Perumbilavil, Sherly John, Dr.Bindya and Sindhu are the other artists being part of ‘Sanghachitra’.

The exhibition was inaugurated by noted writer Khadeeja Mumtaz at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery in Kozhikode on Wednesday. It concludes on October 11.
