Weapons seizure: police zero in on gang

October 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Nadapuram police have zeroed in on a few youths, suspected to be part of a local gang, in connection with the recent seizure of lethal weapons from a construction site near Kallachi in the Nadapuram police station limit.

Police sources said they traced the details of the suspects on the basis of the Finger Print Bureau’s scientific examination report. They were not part of any political party or outfit but had the intention to incite communal violence.

“Based on the scientific report, we launched a search but all of them were found absconding,” said a senior police officer attached to the Nadapuram police station.

The role of the same gang was suspected in two incidents to fan communal sentiments that had been reported from the region earlier.

A rural police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police M.P. Premdas seized 15 swords from the site on October 10.

The weapons were found packed inside PVC pipes. Following the incident, the rural police carried out a series of searches in the area besides strengthening night vigil and local patrolling.
