The complaint boxes set up by the rural police in various government and aided schools in Vadakara will be opened on Monday. The name and details of the students who made the complaints will be kept confidential. Legal action will be initiated against the accused after a detailed inquiry.
According to T.K. Rajmohan, Superintendent of Police, Vadakara Rural, 133 drop boxes have been set up in various government and aided schools in the region. “The contents of all boxes will be checked on Monday,” he said. As per the directive given to the police, minor complaints against teachers, friends, or school management will be settled through discussions. Serious charges, including against teachers or friends concerning sexual exploitation or physical torture, will be probed in detail.
In city schools, the installation of complaint boxes is now in the final phase, according to District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) officers. All major schools in the city have been given boxes, which will be checked every week by the Circle Inspectors concerned.
P.C. Sajeevan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, DCRB, said complaint boxes in many city schools had already been opened. “As it is a new initiative, the number of complaints is less. But, it may go up once the students are convinced of its efficacy,” he added.
Some students had complained against certain drivers who did not stop buses at bus stops. The Kasaba Police would look into the issue.
“In the new system, the police will directly handle the complaints. If the complainant is in need of counselling or any other service, that too will be catered to with the support of agencies such as Childline,’ said Mr. Sajeevan.
