UGC to fund more research projects at university

Work on projects of use to nation, researchers told

Urmila Devi, Joint Secretary in charge of major research projects, University Grants Commission (UGC), has said that the commission will sanction more funds for research in the University of Calicut. The UGC has allocated a good chunk of funds for studies with potential to hasten the country’s progress.

Delivering the keynote address at a day-long workshop for research guides in the University of Calicut at Tenhipalam on Monday, Dr. Devi called upon researchers to come up with projects useful for the nation.

She said that apart from the UGC, projects were being sanctioned by the Central Departments of Science and Technology and Biotechnology.

University Vice-Chancellor M. Abdul Salam inaugurated the workshop. He also inaugurated the website of the university Research Directorate.

Pro Vice-Chancellor K. Ravindranath presided over the function. Syndicate member K.A. Siraj released a directory containing details of the doctoral degrees awarded by the university. Registrar I.P. Abdul Razak, Science faculty dean M.V. Joseph, and K.P. Mohanan spoke.
