United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Benny Behanan has accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) of expanding its coalition on the basis of a communal agenda.
Addressing a news conference here on Friday, he said that now the Kerala Congress leader R. Balakrishna Pillai was in the LDF fold, while the views of veteran CPI(M) leader V.S. Acuthanandan were outside its ambit. If Mr. Achuthanandan had an iota of political sincerity by taking a strong stand earlier against Mr. Pillai, he should come out of the Left coalition, Mr. Behanan said.
He asked why Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was maintaining silence on the entry of 51 young women to the Sabaraimala temple. Previously, the Chief Minister had declared that two young women had entered the temple in the presence of the Devaswom Minister.
‘Sinister motive’
The State government had a sinister motive to release the list of young women who had entered the shrine after the annual pilgrim Mandalakala season, he alleged.
Mr. Behanan also charged the CPI(M) with adopting double standards on tackling communalism in the State.
The policy of the party had only given ammunition to the BJP. Its agenda would be exposed soon, he said.
