Residents who are up in arms against a proposed super-specialty hospital at Edakkad here, took out a torchlight public protest around the Mananchira Square here on Sunday.

Activist T.M. Raveendran, who addressed the gathering as part of the programme, said the protest was the desperate outcry of a group of people for their existence.

“It is also an agitation for a safer and healthier living space for future generations,” Mr. Raveendran said.

Six months of protest

The agitation, organised by the Edakkad Jankeeya Samithi, was held to mark the completion of six months of protests against the project that was allegedly violating the norms and neglecting the objection of several residents.

Freedom fighter P. Vasu and activists P.T. Balan and K.P. Vijayakumar, among others, spoke on the occasion. Samara Samithi chairman M.C. Sudeshkumar presided over the function.
