Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran on Friday said the State needed more Central aid for the timely completion of various infrastructure projects.

Laying the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Korappuzha bridge here, the Minister noted that the government had been getting favourable response from the Surface Transport Ministry so far. “Over the last two years, we got ₹2,050 crore for roads alone,” he added. On the ongoing projects, the Minister said the government had already spent ₹1.05 lakh crore on them which could be a record for the State.

Mr. Sudhakaran said the reconstruction of the Korappuzha bridge would be completed by 2020. The Kerala Road Fund Board and the NH wing of the PWD will supervise the project for which ₹27.17 crore has been sanctioned by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fun Board (KIIFB), he added.

Stressing optimum utilisation of funds, the Minister said public money should be spent wisely and called for converting government funds into public assets generating revenue.

Minister for Transport A.K. Saseendran chaired the event. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, Chemanchery grama panchayat president K. Asokan, and PWD executive engineer K. Vinayaraj were present.

Mr. Sudhakaran and PWD officials later reviewed the demolition of the old bridge.
