December 01, 2013 01:17 pm | Updated May 12, 2016 04:11 am IST - KOZHIKODE:

The district development committee has called for serious steps to protect the Korapuzha and voiced grave concern at the deterioration of its condition.

K. Dasann, MLA, who raised the issue at the development committee meeting here on Saturday demanded immediate dredging of the river since lack of strong currents had been found to be a major cause of its decline. The meeting adopted a resolution urging the government to undertake dredging and other activities to improve the condition of Korapuzha.

Mr. Dasan also demanded the upgrading of the Kozhoor UP school as a high school, and opening of the district court to try cases related to crime against women and children.

Purushan Kadalundi, MLA, demanded the restoration of the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer of Kerala Water Authority (KWA) at Koilandy. He said closure of the office had upset water distribution schemes in Kozhikode district and led to two posts of assistant engineers lying vacant.
