Steel bomb explodes in restaurant, none hurt

A steel bomb exploded on the first floor of a restaurant at Perambra on Thursday mid-morning, triggering panic across the town. The explosion took place around 11 a.m. in a building which is located very close to the Perambra bus stand. The police said no one was injured in the incident. The building is owned by a Communist Party of India (Marxist) member.

The bomb was lying beneath a heap of junk. It exploded when a labourer, while cleaning the junk, threw it away along with other waste materials, the police said.

The Perambra police have registered a case.

On December 10, there were clashes between CPI(M) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at Perambra. Two persons had sustained serious injuries then.
