State meet of palliative nurses’ forum begins

June 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

The second State conference of Kerala Panchayat Palliative Nurses’ Association began with M. Rajan, the patron of the association, hoisting the flag in Kozhikode on Friday.

The conference passed a motion demanding that the State government consider palliative care nurses who have been working in the three-tire panchayats as employees of the local bodies with all benefits.

Demands

The motion also demanded PF, ESI, and pension benefits to the nurses; ending the discriminatory attitude towards them; and checking the tendency of rejecting honorarium after providing maternity leave. Palliative nurses carry out the palliative care activities of the local bodies as per the 12th Five Year Plan, by taking care of patients of cancer, lung disorders, and the paralysed.
