Minister for Industries A.C. Moideen has said that the government has taken several steps to create an atmosphere conducive to the industrial development in the State.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the ₹45-crore KINFRA Advanced Technology Park at Ramanattukara here on Thursday. A major part of the new investment towards industrial parks had already been identified by the government in various parts of the State, he said.
Specialised industrial parks with requisite infrastructure as well as common facilities would be established soon, the Minister said.
He said the State had more than 40 lakh unemployed educated manpower. However, traditional sectors were unable to absorb them. So, stepping up the rate of industrial development was the only solution to the problem. The government was keen to develop eco-friendly industrial parks in the State, he said.
The proposed KINFRA project aims at the establishment of advanced technology industries and knowledge-based industries at Ramanattukara. It has earmarked 10 acres of land for setting up the park with the aim of providing all infrastructure facilities.
The project proposes to construct a Standard Design Factory (SDF) building in two acres of land, with one lakh square feet area in four floors. It will offer direct employment to 700 to1,000 people, and about 2,000 indirect employment to others.
So far, KINFRA has successfully completed over 22 theme-based industrial parks in the State in 24 years. Some of these include garments, infotainment, marine/seafood, rubber, exports, food processing and biotechnology units, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. The successful completion of India’s first International Apparel Park in Thiruvananthapuram, India’s first Export Promotion
Industrial Park in Ernakulam; first Infotainment Park in Thiruvananthapuram, and first Food Processing Industrial Park in Malappuram are the notable achievements.
