An irritant in the system, says officer

K.P. Abdul Razak, Assistant Commissioner (Kozhikode South) has come down heavily on the State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA), terming it an “irritant in the system” that puts down the morale of the truthful personnel in the department.

Addressing the 34th District Convention of the Kerala Police Association (Kozhikode City) here on Wednesday, he also sought the removal of Section 110 from the Kerala Police Act that gives confidence to the SPCA to come out with “humiliating interferences” in various cases.

Mr. Razak said the Kerala Police Association and other similar organisations were yet to raise their voice against the misuse of powers by the SPCA.

He also placed the issue before Director General of Police (North Zone) Rajesh Dewan and District Police Chief J. Jayanath. “The existence of SPCA is a must if we do not have any other complaint redressing mechanism in Kerala, but the situation here is different as we are having a lot of other legal entities for the public to handle complaints against the police,” he pointed out. Mr. Dewan inaugurated the delegates’ meet, while Mr. Jayanath delivered the keynote address. Association president V.P. Pavithran, secretary G.S. Sreejith and general convener V. Sooraj Kumar were present.
