Shun extremism: Koran scholar

May 19, 2013 12:32 pm | Updated 12:32 pm IST - KOZHIKODE:

Extremism can never make inroads into a country like India which is built on the strong foundation of secularism, Koran scholar and secretary of All India Ahle Hadees Moulana Hafiz Mohammed Abdul Khayum has said.

He was inaugurating a State-level seminar on ‘Religion, Society and Morality’ organised by the Ithihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM) here on Saturday.

Stressing the need to resist the infiltration of extremist ideologies into the minds of the younger generation, the religious scholar said it would be possible only through a united stance of various secular organisations in the country. Socio-political organisations should stand firm against extremist ideologies, he said.

The seminar, presided over by ISM State president T.P. Abdulla Koya Madani, also called upon Keralites to be alert against the caste- and creed-based propagations meant for damaging religious harmony.

Supporting such moves would only tarnish the image of our great social reformers, the seminar observed.

M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, MLA, delivered the keynote address. KNM vice-president P.K. Ahamed and A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, addressed the seminar.
