Sexual abuse charge found to be false

An inquiry conducted by the police into the allegation that 21 girl students of a city-based school have been sexually abused by a senior teacher has revealed that the complaint had been hatched by a former Parent-Teacher Association president, his wife, and a teacher of the school.

City Police Commissioner A.V. George said on Tuesday the police had gathered detailed information regarding the complaint and collected statements from the students, teachers, and parents. A special team led by Women’s Cell Circle Inspector Sharlet Mani carried out the inquiry. The alleged incident had taken place eight months ago. “The complaint was found to be false. Investigators will soon question the former PTA president, his wife and the teacher who raised the allegation,” he said.

No case would be filed against the complainants. However, the school authorities could file a defamation suit against the complainants for raising a bogus allegation, Mr. George said.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the PTA president, headmaster and the principal of the school blamed the former PTA president, his wife, and a Hindi teacher for hatching the plot to defame the school. No parent had given a complaint regarding the allegation so far. Previously a committee had carried out an inquiry into an anonymous letter in this regard and found it to be false. The Hindi teacher had been reprimanded earlier for assaulting a teacher, refraining from duties, and insubordination.
