‘Those responsible should be held answerable to society’

Rajya Sabha member Suresh Gopi has said that granting occupancy certificate to the convention centre built by NRI investor Sajan Parayil, who took his life allegedly under stress from denial of the certificate by the Anthoor municipality, will not solve the problems the municipal authorities created.

After visiting the bereaved family of Sajan at their house at Aryambath here on Sunday, the actor-politician said that those responsible for the death of Sajan should be held answerable to society.

Legal action sought

Demanding that the family be accorded justice, he said that the government should be ready to take legal action against those responsible for his death. The 49-year-old investor had ended his life here on June 18 allegedly after the CPI(M)-ruled municipality harassed him by not giving him the occupancy certificate for the multi-crore Partha Convention Centre he had built at Bakkalam here. Mr. Gopi said the issue should be discussed in Parliament.

He was accompanied by BJP district vice-president K. Radhakrishnan and State council member Prabhakaran Kadannapally.
