The delegate session of the 14th State conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will begin here on Monday. Veteran journalist P. Sainath will open the event at Tagore Centenary Hall in the morning.

The formal launch of the conference was held on Sunday evening on Kozhikode beach.

Over 600 delegates, including five transgender persons, are attending the three-day session.

The event is being held at a time when the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is going through a tough phase with the Congress and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-Bharatiya Janata Party combine trying to corner the State government over the entry of women into Sabarimala temple.

A ‘rath yatra’ taken out by BJP State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has just passed through Kozhikode district and another rally led by Congress leader K. Sudhakaran is expected to reach here on Monday.

The DYFI is already holding seminars and discussions over the need to protect constitutional values of gender equality and the need to uphold the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all age groups to the hill shrine. The issue is likely to be taken up at the delegate session too.

The controversy over the sexual assault complaint levelled by a woman from Palakkad district against CPI(M) legislator P.K. Sasi may also figure in the discussions, it is learnt. There are reports that A.N. Shamseer and M. Swaraj, State president and State secretary, respectively, may be replaced.
