The residents on the East side of the Kallai Road near Pushpa bus stop have submitted a petition to Mayor A.K. Premajam demanding repairs to the road that starts from the bus stop and serves as a link to the West Bhajanakovil lane and the Chalappuram Road.

The link road is barely 200 metre long and 5 metre wide, but is used by around 200 families, most of who live in the three apartment complexes in the vicinity.

Besides, students from around 10 educational institutions as well as traders and local people use the road for their commutation to escape the traffic of the main road.

The presence of an auto service centre adds to the traffic on the road which has been in a deplorable condition for more than five years. With tall compound walls on both sides, the road is constantly flooded during rain, mainly due to the lack of proper drainage.

The road was surfaced more than 20 years ago and hence is in a state of disrepair. K.Siddique, who works as a headload worker near the area for 24 years confirms that no maintenance work has been taken up on the road since it was laid. The residents feel that the situation could have been much better if the drains were in a good condition. The drains that were laid along with the road, are practically non-existent in most parts. Where the drains are visible, they are covered in silt with very less water passing through it. “The Corporation’s cleaning staff had just chopped off the grass and were not ready to remove the silt. Thus the silt remained and the drains are still clogged,” said Mohammed Iqbal, another resident of the area.
