Protest against absence of zebra lines

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Kozhikode:

Demanding speedy intervention from the Public Works Department to restore the fading zebra lines, the residents in the city under the leadership of the Kerala State Consumer Protection Forum will stage a Satyagraha at Mananchira on Monday.

Leaders of the consumer forum said the lack of clearly marked zebra lines was proving to be one of the major reasons for freak accidents in the district. Apparently, the pedestrians were the scapegoats in most of these incidents, they pointed out.

P.K. Sasidharan, district secretary of the association, said the complaints earlier given to various government departments to address the issue were falling on deaf ears.

“Very recently, an elderly man and his wife had been run over by a car while crossing such a zebra line in Koyilandy,” he said.
