Project for projecting Koyilandy tourism circuit

Efforts to exploit village tourism potential

May 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Kozhikode:

To pep up village tourism and attract more sightseers to the historically important locations in and around the Koyilandy Assembly constituency, a new tourist bus will be purchased exclusively for the constituency by utilising the local area development fund of K. Dasan, MLA.

The bus is being purchased as part of forming a new tourism circuit linking popular tourism destinations in the region.

The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) will coordinate the implementation of the new project linking around 10 important locations in the region. Some of the already chosen locations include Kappad, Koyilandy Harbour, Parappally, Thikkodi beach, Kunhali Marakkar Memorial, and Iringal Crafts Village.

“We are planning to set apart Rs.15 lakh in the first phase to purchase the bus, which will be exclusively utilised to take sightseers to these identified locations. A final approval on the project is expected from the DTPC, which will shortly convene a meeting on the subject,” says Mr. Dasan.

He says the project is likely to be materialised within a few months.

As part of identifying the scope and potential of the new rural tourism circuit, a special engineering team has been assigned and they will prepare a detailed proposal to be submitted to the tourism authorities. According to officials, the project is in the final stage.

Mr. Dasan says the decision to purchase a tourist bus comes after noticing the struggles of tourists to cover all these locations in a day in the absence of proper bus services. Though private buses are operational in different routes, a single bus covering all these spots is a difficult task which can be addressed only by purchasing and operating a separate bus for the cause, he points out.
