Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the priority of the government was to modernise the Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

“The government has allocated ₹39 crore in the Budget for the modernisation programme ,” Mr. Vijayan said while commissioning the fire station at Koyilandy in the district on Saturday.

He said the shortcomings in the department had been resolved. Similarly, a sum of ₹12 crore has been set aside for purchasing hydraulic ladders to reach multi-storey buildings in case of accidents.

An amount of ₹10 crore, sourced from the Central Disaster Management Authority, has helped the government purchase modern equipment and vehicles for the department, the Chief Minister said.
