: The Gender Park to promote research and various other initiatives to enable total gender equality will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee here on February 27.

The park, which has come up on a 24-acre campus, is an initiative of the Department of Social Justice of the State government to bring together the State, academia and civil society on a common platform to address gender issues.

Governor P. Sathasivam; Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; Cabinet Ministers; and Rebecca Reichmann Tavares, Representative, U.N. Women for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan; will take part in the inaugural, a press release from the park authorities said on Monday.

Chief Executive Officer of the park P.T.M. Sunish said the park would be the country's first large-scale initiative to create an environment to share global knowledge and experiences in reducing gender inequalities.

Given the proactive approach of the Kerala Government in launching effective models of development, it now sought to be the pioneer in the country in gender policy, research and inclusion through its ground-breaking Gender Park, he said.

The release said a Gender Institute at the park would focus on learning, research and capacity development, as part of supporting the efforts of the State and Central governments in ensuring an inclusive society.

The Gender institute would cover issues pertaining to all three genders as per the 2015 gender and transgender policies of the State government.

The objective was to link knowledge creation to policy-making through a multi-disciplinary research and learning process and, eventually, turn it into the first Gender University in the country.

There would be space for research on gender development and equality, to have theory and data that could be used formulate government policy and put it to practice.
