18 police stations in city limits linked to CCTNS

June 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kozhikode:

Eighteen police stations in the city limits have been bought under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). The facility will enable the police to manage and exchange crime records online.

A virtual private network of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) will be utilised to ensure the flawless management of CCTNS. All the help desks currently operational at police stations too will be linked with the CCTNS to provide quick response to queries on various cases under investigation.

Senior police officers said the system would enable fast exchange of the details of cases with various investigating agencies. The exchange of details of accused people, if sought by different investigation agencies for separate probes, too would be possible in an effortless way.

Also, investigating officials at different stations and police headquarters can simultaneously access investigation reports and details of the accused. It would also help a national-level exchange of information.

CCTNS, which was formally launched in the country in 2009, will also be helpful in the speedy analysis of crime statistics. Exchange of information from the Jail, Forensic, and Immigration Departments too will be possible.

According to officials, Kozhikode City is the 14th police district in Kerala to have the new facility. It had already been introduced in the Kozhikode Rural police district.
