The rural police have intensified vigil in Nadapuram area following suspicion over the presence of an unidentified group of ant-social elements to flare up communal tension.

Police officials said the night patrolling had been strengthened in addition to the search for arms in the wake of the seizure of 15 lethal swords from a construction site at Kallachi.

The weapons recovered from the area on Saturday were found in a ready-to-use state, and were fully lubricated with oil.

Deputy Superintendent of Police M.P. Premadas, who heads the investigation into the incident, told The Hindu on Sunday the experts from the Finger Print Bureau were in the final phase of developing a few traces of impressions collected from the spot and from the weapons. “We have got some vital evidence to trace the gang. Some of them will be located soon,” he added.

He also confirmed that the weapons were not procured by the sympathisers of any political outfit from the region.

“This was done by a well-organised gang and all political parties have been alerted against the isolated attempts to fuel communal tensions,” he added.

The police officer said there were two recent attempts, suspected to be from the same gang, to create communal tension in the region in the wake of the local body polls.

“But the political parties are keeping vigil. They have been asked to be watchful of any of such deliberate attempts,” he said.
