The inmates of the Government Leprosy Hospital, Chevayur, on Saturday, staged a protest at the hospital on Saturday alleging harassment by a junior medical consultant.

The inmates did not allow the doctor to enter the hospital and sought the intervention of the authorities. They said they could not ‘trust’ her and sought her transfer.

Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) M. Shyamala visited the hospital and talked to the patients. The strike was called off after Dr. Shyamala assured them that she would recommend the Director of Health Services (DHS) to transfer the doctor in question. Dr. Shyamala said the issue was a long-standing one and the inmates had raised such complaints earlier.
