Opposition accused of failing to expose ‘misrule’ by UDF

December 09, 2014 09:21 am | Updated 09:21 am IST - Kozhikode:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president V. Muraleedharan has accused the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) of being completely passive against the ‘anti-people’ policies of Oommen Chandy government both in and outside the Assembly.

He was inaugurating a two-day north Kerala mega membership campaign of the party here on Monday.

There was only a thin margin between the ruling United Democratic Front and the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led LDF in the Assembly. Even then the Opposition had failed to expose the maladministration by the ruling front, Mr. Muraleedharan said.

He said that the LDF simply staged a walkout from the Assembly on every other occasion. It was doubtful whether an Opposition party existed in the State.

Mullaperiyar issue

The BJP leader flayed the State government for its stance on the Mullaperiyar issue.

666Instead of exposing the foolishness of the ruling party, the LDF joined an all-party delegation to meet the Prime Minister on the issue. However, the idea of an all-party delegation was dropped when the BJP brought to light the folly of the government, Mr. Muraleedharan said.

He wondered why the government was hesitant on reducing the bus fare when the prices of petroleum products had come down.

BJP district president P. Reghunath presided over the function. Party State general secretary K.P. Sreeshan, secretary B. Radhakrishna Menon, organising secretary K.R. Umakanth, assistant secretary K. Subash and vice presidents Nirmala Kuttikrishnan and Prameela Naik, and membership campaign State coordinator V.K. Sajeevan spoke.
