Phone accessories found near compound wall

The city police continued their raids in and outside the District Jail here in the city on Wednesday.

Mobile phone accessories and electrical wires were recovered by the raiding team from outside the compound wall on Wednesday.

These included two smart-phones flip covers, three mobile chargers, two ear plugs and electrical wires.

The police suspect that these could have been thrown outside from the jail by those using it.

The raids had been carried out in the wake of media reports that the accused in the killing of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P.Chandrasekharan who are lodged as remand prisoners had been using mobile phones.

Five undertrial prisoners had been accessing their Facebook accounts while in jail.

A raid conducted by a team led by G. Sparjankumar, Commissioner of Police, Kozhikode City, had recovered 21 mobile phone accessories on Tuesday.

Personnel from Kasaba police station and teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad also assisted in the raids.

On Tuesday the police had recovered five chargers, eight mobile phone batteries, two multi-pins, four earphones, and two ear-plugs.

These were found outside the high compound wall of the jail.

However, the jail authorities did not find out the mobile phones during their raids on Monday.

The Kasaba police have registered a case (Crime No. 675/2013) in connection with the incident of undertrial prisoners using mobile devices based on a complaint filed by R. Sajan, Jail Superintendent, Kozhikode district jail.

The accused were charged with section 86(1), 86(2) and 86(3) of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2010. M.C. Anoop (1st accused), Manoj Kumar aka Kirmani Manoj, (2nd accused), M.K. Sunil Kumar aka Kodi Suni (3rd accused) K.K. Mohammed Shafi aka Shafi (fifth accused and Shijith aka Annan Shijith ( sixth accused) were named in the first information report.
