‘No logic in Rahul fighting from Wayanad’

Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) State president M.V. Shreyams Kumar has questioned the logic behind the Congress party fielding its chief Rahul Gandhi from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme here on Friday, he said that if the Congress party was fighting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the national level, it should have aimed for all the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh rather than targeting the 20 seats in Kerala. “May be, it is a decision of that party. I but am questioning that logic,” Mr. Kumar said.

He said the candidature of Mr. Gandhi would not have any impact on the neighbouring constituencies. In fact, Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate P.P. Suneer is giving a tough contest to Mr. Gandhi in Wayanad, he added. Stating that the country was going through a critical phase, Mr. Kumar said that the need of the hour was to elect LDF candidates in the State.

When Left parties supported the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in 2004, a common minimum programme had been worked out for the welfare of people and economic growth of the country. “But after the UPA assumed power in its second innings, the common minimum programme was only looting,” he said.
