National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C) is teaming up with Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, for developing a healthcare-related technology.

It has inked an agreement with SCTIMST for a project aimed at developing an algorithm to aid in the management of anticoagulation for patients requiring oral anticoagulant drugs. The algorithm will be developed by final year B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering students of NIT-C.

Based on the patient data provided by SCTIMST, NIT-C will develop the algorithm using artificial intelligence and machine learning. The technology will help people who are on anticoagulation drugs. As of now there is no similar system available in India. It is available abroad but is costly.

With the development of the system, 70% of the patients who are on anticoagulation drugs can avoid frequent hospital visits and can change the dosage of drugs even by visiting primary health centres where an expert cardiologist is not available.
