The flood-affected primary health centre (PHC) at Kakkodi will get a new building soon.
A release said here on Wednesday that the functioning of the PHC was affected in August last year when floodwaters entered its premises and the building was on the verge of collapse. The PHC was then temporarily shifted to four buildings.
Right now, the laboratory is functioning in the Kakkodi grama panchayat building and treatment facilities are being provided at the homoeo dispensary, ayurveda dispensary and health sub-centre. There was a time when around 500 patients used to visit the PHC a day, Kakkodi grama panchayat president K.K. Choyikkutti said. The Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society has been given the tender for the construction and Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, has sponsored the work.
The new building is expected to come up on the 1-acre plot where the old building was located.
