Moral policing in Kozhikode: 5 held

The Rural police, on Monday, arrested five persons hailing from Vadakara, who manhandled a youth in a suspected attempt of moral policing. The police nabbed the accused as per a complaint filed by Anoop Babu, the victim.

The accused- V. Mansoor, 33, Haris Mohamed, 29, Mohamed Adoli, 18, Saifuddheen Ibrahim 29 and Mohammed Rayes, 20- were charged under section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC and produced before the Nadapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. They were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

The police said the five-member gang assaulted Anoop while he was travelling along with a girl, claimed to be his classmate and close friend, to Vadakara after attending a marriage function.

“The gang forcefully stopped the auto-rickshaw and roughed up the boy at Thiruvallur on Sunday,” the police said.
