The Kozhikode Corporation has introduced a modern queue system at Jana Sevana Kendra (main office) on the beach that is expected to speed up the services offered by the civic body such as issuance of death and birth certificates.
However, owing to the model code of conduct in force, no formal inauguration of the system was held.
Officials said that the system would speed up the issuing of certificates such as birth and death, marriage, and remitting of cash. Twelve counters have been opened for the purpose.
People can get the token through a touch screen installed at the office. As in an ATM kiosk, the software has English and Malayalam languages. Based on the requirement, the counter can be chosen from the kiosk.
The fund for the project, ₹2,10,000, was sourced from the development fund of the civic body. After tendering, Thiruvananthapuram-based Allied Electronics Corporation secured the contract for setting up the system. It has also obtained the annual maintenance contract for three years, officials said.
