Minister for Ports Kadannappally Ramachandran on Friday said the State government would extend all support to Beypore Port as part of the new coastal shipping promotional programmes.

Opening the new gatehouse at the port, which was constructed as part of introducing International Ships and Port Facility Security Code, Mr. Ramachandran said the priority would be on developing facilities using the available 3.8 acres in the area. Development works and additional security arrangements would be executed by ensuring no harm to traditional fishers and their operations in the area, he added.

Port authorities said the introduction of International Ships and Port Facility Security Code, one of the major maritime regulation initiatives, would bring in drastic changes in the conventional mode of checking and baggage screening. All modern safety arrangements would be in place to prevent anti-social activities through ports, they said.

Mr. Ramachandran also opened the renovated port guest house in the city. Officials representing the Port Department and Kerala Maritime Board were present.
