Health Minister K.K. Shylaja has called for researches in the Ayurveda system of medicine to ensure that its theories are proved in the laboratory as demanded in the modern era.
Inaugurating a seminar on Ayurveda organised here on Sunday to mark the birth anniversary of Kottakkal Arya Vaidyashala founder P.S. Warrier, the Minister said that lifestyle-based Ayurveda treatment had saved the State from a host of diseases. Patent for traditional indigenous medical knowledge was often obtained by foreign countries, she said.
She said the master plan and detailed project report of the₹300-crore International Research Institute of Ayurveda being set up at Sreekantapuram had been submitted to the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. The proposal included setting up of a museum of international standards.
Ms. Shylaja said currently the health sector was giving importance to immunisation. The people’s campaign would begin in the first week of November. She also remembered P.S. Warrier as a person who moulded Ayurveda scientifically.
Kannur Mayor Suma Balakrishnan presided over the function. Arya Vaidyashala Medical Centre chief physician P.S. Warrier was present.
