MES awards for four

Jignesh Mevani, Rafeeq Ahamed among awardees

Gujarat MLA and social activist Jignesh Mevani, Calicut University former Vice Chancellor Syed Iqbal Hasnain, poet Rafeeq Ahamed, and entrepreneur K.P. Hussain have been chosen for the MES Excellence Awards instituted by the Muslim Educational Society. According to a release by MES president P.A. Fazal Gafoor, the awards are being given once in three years to achievers in different fields.

Mr. Mevani, MLA from the Vadgam constituency, shot into prominence after he launched an agitation against the flogging of Dalits by caste Hindus at Una in 2016. Mr. Hasnain is being honoured for his work in education and social sectors. Mr. Ahmed is being felicitated for his achievements in arts and culture. Mr. Hussain, chairman of the UAE-based Fathima Healthcare Group, is being honoured for his professional prominence. The awards will be presented on December 22.
