Master plan for tribal development in Wayanad

The Wayanad district administration is preparing a master plan for the comprehensive development of the tribespeople under the Sugandhagiri project at Lakkidi.

The plan is being prepared as a part of the ‘Colony Mitram’ project being executed for the development of various tribal settlements in the district and improving the standard of living of the tribespeople with the coordination of various departments and three-tier local body administrations.

As a part of the project, a team of officials led by District Collector Kesavendrakumar visited the site recently and interacted with the tribespeople of the area.

Many issues

The residents brought various issues such as the pathetic condition of their houses, lack of medical care facilities, increasing attacks by wild animals owing to the alleged negligence of the ANERT in completing a solar fencing project in the area, and dearth of infrastructure facilities to the attention of Mr. Kesavendrakumar.

Mr. Kesavendrakumar assured them that the issues would be addressed in a time-bound manner under the ‘Colony Mitram’ project. He asked the Health Department officials to explore the possibility of shifting the primary health centre now functioning at Vythiri to Sugandhagiri.

If ANERT was not able to complete the work on the power fencing project in a time-bound manner, it would be handed over to another agency, Mr. Kesavendrakumar said.

Measures would be taken to complete the construction of houses for those who could not complete them due to poor transportation facilities, he added. Facilities at the Anganwadis functioning on the site would also be improved.
