A mass cleaning drive will be held at the Kozhikode civil station on November 19.

A meeting convened by District Collector S. Sambasiva Rao on Tuesday decided to conduct the drive in 18 clusters, each monitored by a nodal officer.

The plan is to set up entry gates to the now open verandas for safety purposes and to set up Thumboormuzhi model waste processing units on the civil station premises. Strict action will be taken against those who leave liquor bottles on the civil station premises.

District officers of various departments have been directed to keep waste bins in all offices and scientifically dispose the collected waste. Use of disposable plates has been banned.

Heads of offices and nodal officers, besides cleaning staff, have been given guidelines on waste management and steps to ensure sanitation. Nodal officers have to make sure that waste is segregated at each office, and that biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste is processed separately.

A green protocol committee will be formed at the civil station soon to ensure that the protocol is followed.
