Man gets 5-year RI for bid to kill wife

The Kozhikode Additional District and Sessions Court here has sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.25,000 for attempting to kill his wife after a family dispute three years ago.

Judge S. Muralikrishna found the accused, Thalathulathoor Edvazhikuni Colony Naser, 40, guilty under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The incident occurred on February 28, 2012. Naser stabbed his wife, Nadukudipparambil Rasiya, 40, who was walking on the road at Nadakkavu with their son. The victim, who sustained four stab injuries, was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital. She had to spend 17 days in the Intensive Care Unit there.

The Nadakkavu police probed the case. The court examined 18 witnesses and 12 documents. The testimony of their son was a vital evidence.

The court also ordered that if the accused failed to remit the penalty he would have to undergo another three months in prison.
