Magistrate issues production warrant in Kozhikode

The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has issued a production warrant on four accused, including two leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M], in a case related to mobile phone use in prison by some of the convicts in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case.

Magistrate Titty George issued the warrant as P.K. Kunhanandan and K.C. Ramachandran, CPI(M) leaders, and M.C. Anoop and Annan Shijith, all convicts in the case, were lodged in different prisons in the State.

The case related to the recovery of eight mobile phones, seven batteries, two SIM cards, three memory cards, and an earphone from the District Jail, Kozhikode. The convicts were remand prisoners then.

As many as 17 persons were charged with Section 86 of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services (Management) Act. Kunhanandan (13th accused) was a member of the Panur area committee of the CPI(M) and Ramachandran (8th accused), member of the Kunnummakkara local committee. Ramachandran was later expelled from the party.

Anoop was the first accused and Annan Shijith, the 6th accused. All of them were convicted for taking part in the conspiracy and the subsequent killing of the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader.

The other accused were Manoj Kumar, aka Kirmani Manoj, (2nd accused); Kodi Suni (3rd accused); T.K. Rajeesh (4th accused); K.K. Mohammed Shafi, aka Shafi (5th accused); K. Shinoj (7th accused); and C. Rajith (27th accused); in the murder case. They were produced in court and the case posted to July 31.
